Sources

Every entry starts from established, citable lexical datasets rather than hand-written guesses:

• Definitions, senses and word relationships (synonyms, antonyms, broader and narrower terms) come from the WordNet lexical database, one of the most widely used lexicons in computational linguistics.
• Syllables and pronunciation come from phonetic dictionaries, with syllable counts derived from the pronunciation rather than spelling.
• Word frequency comes from large text corpora, which is how our lists show the most common words first instead of alphabetical noise.
• Game scores are computed from the standard Scrabble® and Words With Friends® tile values, before any board bonuses.

How pages are built

Word lists and reference pages are generated programmatically from the dictionary described above — the same entry powers a word’s definition page, its position in the length and letter lists, and its Scrabble point list. That keeps the site internally consistent: if the dictionary knows a word, every relevant list knows it too.

What we promise

• No invented words. A word appears here only if it exists in our source lexicon.
• No fabricated definitions. Definitions are reproduced from lexical sources, not written to fill space.
• Transparent counts. List totals reflect what is actually in the dictionary, senses and all.

Known limits

Our lexicon is broad — over half a million entries — and that breadth includes proper nouns, technical terms and multi-word phrases. Tournament word-game dictionaries are narrower; a word being listed here does not guarantee it is legal in a specific game. When it matters, check the official dictionary for your game.

Corrections

If you find an error — a wrong syllable count, a misplaced word, a definition that does not fit — please report it through the contact page. Corrections are reviewed by a person and applied to the underlying dictionary, so the fix propagates to every affected page.
